One of the more fun projects we did in language arts during 7th grade was the tic-tac-toe outsiders project. Pretty much, we had to complete a tic-tac-toe board of projects. There was a 3x3 grid of mini-projects and you had to choose 3 that made a row, column, or diagonal. (Hence the name of the project.) Each project had something to do with the book: the outsiders. I chose the one that involved creating a set of trading cards for each character. I even created a game to go with them that involved choosing two characters to fight eachother, weapons to equip on characters, and rumbles every three deaths.
